Why NO options for Slice to midi from Simpler??
Why NO options for Slice to midi from Simpler??
I use Ableton Live. Which means I use slicing presets.
Just why in the HELL are there no slicing preset options in Simpler??

What are slicing presets? You mean to make MIDI events that reflect the length of each slice? I think Ableton viewed that as too limiting for creativity. Doing it yourself can be very rewarding.dna598 wrote:I use Ableton Live. Which means I use slicing presets.

If you really need this there is a commercial Max For Live device that handles it.
Or do you mean like actual presets per slice that could be applied to others? I'd love that. With the old way with one Simpler per slice that was a natural.

I mean the slicing presets dialog box you are presented with when you slice to midi from the browser or clip view.
Page 172 in the manual.

I love that Ableton have put the manual online, so easy to point to: 11. Converting Audio to MIDI then see “Default Presets”, now scroll about two screens to "To adjust how Live behaves when slicing an audio file:"dna598 wrote:Page 172 in the manual.
What is that about?
It's about a single chain in a drumrack that's the template for populating drumrack cells when slicing to a new midi track.
That is not applicable INSIDE Simpler.
OTHO, if you just want a Simpler as your template for slicing to midi tracks, there's your recipe.
Re: Why NO options for Slice to midi from Simpler??
I want a choice. The same choice we always had when slicing.OTHO, if you just want a Simpler as your template for slicing to midi tracks, there's your recipe.
Who would enjoy adjusting the same parameter on 16 simplers/samplers? That is what we are left with when slicing to midi/new drumrack from Simpler.
There is no opportunity to even set up default macros. Let alone choosing what sampler we want in the chain.

Ok, that's a whole different perspective.dna598 wrote:That is what we are left with when slicing to midi/new drumrack from Simpler.
I wasn't even aware of that option, I've only been looking at the Slicing Mode of the redesigned Simpler.
At least now I know why I wasn't sure what you were really asking in the first place.
Re: Why NO options for Slice to midi from Simpler??
Well, it's The new, hip way of slicing in Live. Yet it's missing this crucial and obvious "old" feature.
I have pitch, filter and envelope macros assigned as a preset doing it the old way. Essential for immediate sound shaping. We all know why the feature exists.
As the new way doesn't offer the feature, I can't really use Simpler for slicing as a result. I find that a shame. Seems like a glaring omission to me.

Well, I agree completely. Hopefully this is at least in the planning stages. Is there a suggestion at Centercode to vote for?dna598 wrote: As the new way doesn't offer the feature, I can't really use Simpler for slicing as a result. I find that a shame. Seems like a glaring omission to me.

i guess it will stay this way (no pop-up slice preset chooser) until it's possible to select options directly from Push 2.
currently, Push 2 can't show or interact with Live's popup windows.

A work-around is to load your slicing preset in a midi track, drag the audio you want to chop in the Simpler which is in your Slicing preset then use the slice mode and once you're done you can right click and choose slice to new midi track. This way all the slices will be loaded in your current slicing preset.
