Reaktor Sequencer as MIDI source for other instruments

Post by mikb » Tue Nov 01, 2016 1:58 pm

I tried, using the setup in this video about Spiral, sequencing Instruments in Live with some native Reaktor sequencers and in Reaktor I did go to
  • Edit mode
  • Connect panel
  • checked that MIDI out to external devices is set to Plug-in
  • went to another instrument track
  • Set MIDI from to Reaktor5 track and "Reaktor5"
  • Set MIDI monitor to in as well as armed track
  • Put MFL MIDI monitor in front of the Instrument (Massive). Later removed it.
  • Checked that Massive did respond to MIDI from native clips, with MIDI monitor set to Auto. Then back to In.
When I run my sequencer in Reaktor I get some occasional Ctl data and that's it. No notes. No sound.

My impression was that all Reaktor Sequencers can send MIDI and if Connect is set to Plugin then it should be sent there. The MIDI port is announced to Live and is visible.

What am I missing here? I don't see any other Reaktor settings that would affect this. Suggestions?

Did you load a VST plugin into the midi track? And set ALL those other steps?

And enable Record?

I would get rid of the M4L device in your setup to see if that caused the error.

I just tried this and it works on my PC.

MIDI From must be set to Reaktor in the plugin track.

Have you updated Reaktor to the latest version?

@Liam

I did all that already. I'm on the latest Reaktor 5 version.

Are you using an Audio Unit effect or VST. I think midi out plugin routing only works for VSTs and not AudioUnits (I could be wrong though).

This is true. One cannot use the AU version and get MIDI out. Personally I am using the VST version. I actually removed the AUs. I've never had a problem getting MIDI out from Reaktor or any other sequenser plug-in. I wonder if there is actually any MIDI sent in this case. Has the native sequencer been checked in this regard?

Did you get this sorted? If it helps here's some screen shots of what's working for me. As mentioned, you have to use one of the VST's, the AU's don't send midi out of Reaktor.

I've used Spiral as an effect, directly in-chain with an instrument, but I usually just drop it on its own track and route the midi where I want it to go.

Hope this is helpful.

Reaktor Sequencer as MIDI source for other instruments -Solv

OK, it seems the key is to get under the hood of Reaktor and make sure the sequencer in question is actually sending to the MIDI outs. If not you need to add a structure for that, like you can read in the article How to Build a Sequencer in REAKTOR to Send MIDI Notes to an External Sound Generator.

You need something like this present that converts native events to MIDI:

So the first step of my endeavor is solved, MIDI notes are coming out. Now I just need to adjust the sequencer itself so I can get the control I want over the sequences.
