cpu spikes 9.7 (solved, but strange solution)
cpu spikes 9.7 (solved, but strange solution)
Hi,
Recently ive bought a new pc, installed ableton 9.6 (auto update to 9.7 due internet) (running a hammerfall with ableton on win 10)
Tested abe's own plugs and had huge cpu spikes.
Tried to optimize win 10 , did not work.
By accident i discover when i disable the multi core support function in 9.7 i will have no cpu spikes anymore.
Anyone else with this strange problem? and Abe's will u be able to fix this pls.
Ty in advance.

Unless you are using plug-ins with their own multi-core support active, this is probable extremely rare. How is your CPU set up? Is it Intel? If you do use plug-ins with their own multi-core support, then toggle that setting in the plug-in instead and turn back multicore support in Live.drako wrote: Tested abe's own plugs and had huge cpu spikes.

Also, what audio interface and which buffer setting are you using?

There are no plugins installed with their own m-c-s.
The cpu i have is :
Intel Core i7 6700
Cores 4
Threads 8
Name Intel Core i7 6700
Code Name Skylake
Package Socket 1151 LGA
Technology 14nm
Specification Intel Core i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Family 6
Extended Family 6
Model E
Extended Model 5E
Stepping 3
Revision R0
Instructions MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, Intel 64, NX, VMX, AES, AVX, AVX2, FMA3
Virtualization Supported, Enabled
Hyperthreading Supported, Enabled
Fan Speed 956 RPM
Stock Core Speed 3400 MHz
Stock Bus Speed 100 MHz
As audio interface i use a rme hammerfall multiface 1, with 256 buffer. (Also tried various different buffer sizes)
As windows i use win 10 home edition 64 bit, with 32 bit ableton so i can use old plugins that have no 64 versions(i also use jbridge for uad) (but those were not loaded)
With Ableton's own plugins i tested it loading up some audio and putting some random ableton plugs on them. Which resulted in cpu spikes.

since it's a new computer, it is more likely that you need to optimise your computer's system configuration for audio work.
there are lots of guides out there on the 'net.

How is power saving set up? Turn most of that off if possible. In BIOS I think or if you can do that in Win 10 settings perhaps. I'm not familiar with Win 10 myself.drako wrote:Ty for the reply.Stromkraft wrote:Unless you are using plug-ins with their own multi-core support active, this is probable extremely rare. Want to thank the repliers for their advices.
Did some adjudgement with the power savings and seems to solve a lott.
Strange tho i did not have to do this with a other i7 with win 10 on it.

What is one of the more stranger aspects is that there appears there's not a developer function to just tell the OS to utilize all available power without compromises for a given piece or group of software. If there was one I'd assume DAWs and other real time applications would call on that as routine.
