Double or Triple record a single Track??

Post by Chuku » Mon Dec 05, 2016 9:32 am

Hello All,

I want to record a midi over recorded midi in abelton live 9. Example: I want to record hihats first and take full track of hihats only.. Then i want to record snare part over that without losing my precious recording. Then after that i want to record kick over that so that i can get full drum beat (hihats + snare + kick).
Hope you get my point
How can i do this??
Thanks for your help..

A little more detail in the manual.

Here's the image the numbers refer to:
16.3.2 Recording Into Session Slots

and here's the numbers:
16.3.3 Overdub Recording MIDI Patterns

There are several ways to do this in Ableton. The main thing is just predefining your clip length and then hitting the clip record overdub button and once the clip loops you should be able to overdub whatever part you need indefinitely. You can also select any clip with a recording already on it in session and clicking the record overdub button will allow you to overdub extra parts on any midi clip.

There is also a way to do this in ArrangeView using the Arrange overdub loop record function.

Ableton also has a looper plugin (I think this only works with Audio though).
