"reduced latency when monitoring" cuases clicking?

In my liveset which is a bit complex (using like 60 tracks while 30 of them being instruments) I get some real bad audible clicks when activating different channels. The thing is it's really bad when "reduced latency when monitoring" is activated. If i deactivate it it gets better, but then I need to reduce the buffer size to 64 to get a reasonable latency.
Info: I am using a 1248 TB interface. Maybe that's the problem?

Yes, this option does produce clicks when de/arming tracks.
