Anyone having problem with this new 9.7.2?

Post by Lignus » Thu Apr 20, 2017 5:53 am

Im on Macbook Pro OSX 10.9 Mavericks.

Today when I launched ableton it just kept on crashing.
I did some research and later on I figured out that it was having problem with scanning all the VST's

It was working perfectly fine yesterday and all sudden this happened because of this new update.. (Should've turned off the automatic update..)

Anybody know how to fix this VST scanning problem?

So far I tried the following after uninstalling Live 9

1) installed 9.7.2 64 bit -> same problem
2) installed 9.7.2 32 bit -> was able to scan VST and launch but whenever I call in an instrument (AU or VST) it crashes
3) installed 9.6.2 64 bit -> same problem (Weird because it was working perfectly fine... for the last half year...
4) Now I'm installing 9.6.2 32 bit...

Plz let me know if you guys are having same issue..

I don't, but Ableton's support employees get a monthly salary to tackle exactly these kind of issues, and I have good experiences with them, so my suggestion is to reach out there.

Yep

(no seriously though, never use automatic update on ANY mission critical software EVER!)

I couldn't get auto-update to work. Turned it on, restarted, waited and…nothing. Now I have to download and re-install all modifications again. I've been running the betas with no issues whatsoever.

Did you install any new plugin recently?

Same problem here. Previous version worked yesterday updated today and Ableton doesn't finish launching. Windows 10

For what it's worth I made a clean 9.7.2 installation — as opposed to letting Live update itself — and the first time Live crashed blaming NI Supercharger or a previously scanned plug-in (VST). Second and third time no crash. The betas never crashed, not even once.

I've had a long standing totally separate issue concerning graphics and GUI unresponsiveness that was for some years triggered exactly one time with each new update, and then not again. It would seem sometimes stuff can happen with the update process from the old settings to new. Odd nevertheless.

I haven't added any plug-ins since 5th of April and I run Live every day. Crashes are extremely rare.

So, I got reply from Ableton, it seemed like 2 of my plug-ins(Maschine 2, Wurlitzer) were causing the problem (they were fine with 9.7.1)

I deleted them in my VST folder.
Now it works fine.

For those who are having problems, submit inquiry to Ableton and ask for 9.7.1 download link. They will provide it.

Mine was crashing at startup because of the LiquidRhythm.vst. Deleting this file from plugins folder fixes the crash (previous Ableton build was not crashing though).

...same problems here...i have maschine 2.4.7 installed so maybe that's the problem...so will there be a new live version or will native instruments have to check their plugins?...

I have Windows7 and I updated Live 9.7.2 to replace 9.7.1.
When Live starts and scans VSTs it always crashes when checking demo version of VST XILS V+.
This never caused problems earlier.

yes - crashed a couple of times on startup scanning VSTS - then seemed to resolve itself. Go figure.

Does this seem to be a necessary update? Most of the time it's a certain controller support.
