Roland JV-1080 + Push 2 + Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

Post by Anders_UK » Thu Jul 06, 2017 1:07 pm

Hi guys,

Can someone give me some advice to help me correctly set up my Roland JV-1080 with Ableton, I'm currently connecting my JV-1080 to my macbook with a USB to Midi cable, I then have my Push 2 connected via USB and my Scarlett 2i2 also connected by USB. I'm trying to work out how to trigger everything correctly as I remember being told i needed different Midi Channels in Ableton to trigger different things like individual drum sounds etc. If anyone knows of any information they can share it would be much appreciated.

Thanks alot

Dan

Your jv should have midi out and in. you might connect the jv to your sound card midi in and trigger it with a midi controller keyboard. In Live, open a midi track and go to the drop down menu and click on "sound card' in. focusrite scarllett should be in the menu,, this is how i routed my jv 2080 to Live using a midi controller and my soundcard. You can then, record midi in the jv midi track . make sense?

Do you have the JV-1080 manual?

In Performance mode, the JV can be treated as 16 independent synthesizers, each on it's own MIDI channel. Channel 10 is usually reserved for drums. In your Live clips you can even imbed the program change numbers to call up the appropriate patch.
