32 bit to 64 bit, switch ok?
32 bit to 64 bit, switch ok?
Turns out I just learned my most current version of Live is 32 bit while my Mac is 64 bit. Any problem working/opening past Ableton projects and external plug ins if I switch to 64 bit?
thanks
thanks

Are these the issues you are having with getting Komplete Kontrol working?
Everything will work just fine as long as you have 64bit versions of all your plugins. Live will not use 32bit in 64bit so you will need to update/reinstall plugins you own to the 64bit versions

Actually DrumCore 3 is 32 bit and wont work on 64bit Ableton? Ableton 64bit says it can find the VST for DrumCore (it is there for sure).
Any workaround?

Re: 32 bit to 64 bit, switch ok?
So Drumcore 3 is 32bit.
So im not sure what to do. I have a a handful of sketches with DC3 in 32 bit. I have not done anything in 64bit Ableton, just installed it. and I do have the RAM to benefit from it. Since Im getting Superior Drummer soon, I expect I will use that the most, not much DC3.
I think I just wanna figure out how to be able to open the song sketches done in 32 bit with DC3 and save the beats/loops on the DC3 channel......record them as audio to another track...so I can import those loops into a 64 bit version? Sounds a bit complicated.
Or keep use 64 and when I wanna open a project that has DC3 launch in 32bit, maybe replace the DC3 loops with similar loops by Superior Drummer.
I def dont wanna keep using both 32 and 64 Ableton. I think I should move fwd with 64 bit.
Apparently Ableton 64 bit will open and work with projects originally done in 32 bit.....right?????
thoughts?

Re: 32 bit to 64 bit, switch ok?
The project does not matter if it was created in 32/64 bit as long as the plugins are there. Live 64 will not work with 32 bit plugins so if there is not a 64bit version of the plugin you will either have to use a bridge plugin (like jbridge) which can be problematic or give up the plugin if the vendor does not offer a 64bit version. I note from their website that there is a DC4 upgrade that supports 64bit.
If you just want to get audio loops you have created then you can install/keep the 32bit live version, open the projects, get the loops then import them into your 64bit any time. It's recommended to keep the 32 + 64 bit versions until you can test your projects and see if any do not open.
I would typically advise to do some planning BEFORE upgrading. Check what VSTs you have installed (make a list), get the installers for all of these and check there is 64bit versions. Get all of that updated first

DrumCore 4 is 64bit. This is how things work when technology transitions occur.Sebastian wrote:So Drumcore 3 is 32bit.

Yes, projects open, but unavailable plug-ins affects how useful this is. There are also bit-bridging apps like Jbridge that can possibly work. I choose not to some years back.
Make some music!
Re: 32 bit to 64 bit, switch ok?
cool, thanks yall. So how do I get Ableton 64bit to stop looking for and not finding Drumcore3? It does that every time and delays how quickly it launches.

Re: 32 bit to 64 bit, switch ok?
props to the jBridge developer, but i'm happy to no longer be messing with 32 bit -> 64bit plugin bridging any more.
if you want to sometimes use the 32-bit version of Live with 32-bit plugins, then i suggest that you use a custom VST folder just for your 32-bit plugins. you can then have that folder set in your 32-bit Live File/Folder prefs.
