Midi Controller Not Registering in Ableton

Hi,

My midi controller (M-Audio Oxygen 49) is no longer registering in Ableton Live 9 Lite. It was working originally (it basically set itself up automatically when I plugged it in), but when I tried plugging it in tonight there a message that flashed briefly about a power surge and now when I press the keys on the controller nothing happens in Ableton.

When I look in preferences in Ableton under "Midi/Link," I can see my controller selected under "control Surface," but "Input" is greyed out and the only "Output" I can select is "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth." Under "Midi Ports" it only lists "Output - Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" -- I see no entry for the M-Audio midi controller.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? The only thing I can think to do would be to reinstall Ableton and then plug the controller in again and see if it will set up automatically. If I do that though will it delete any project files I have created?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

7 years later I'm encountering the exact same problem. Did this ever got solved, if so, how?

It's unbelievable, I've been looking for hours for a solution on the web. I now know I'm not the only one. I stumbled upon several cries for help from other users, but I found absolutely no solution
