replicate the effect of a guitar capo on my midi keyboard

Hi , I’m trying to replicate the effect of a guitar capo on my midi keyboard. Could you please help?
I want to map two midi buttons which respectively control transpose up and down by a semitone. I also want the current amount of transposition to be easily visible, even if I’m looking at a different track, so that I won't forget that I’m playing with different semi-tones (similar to how the capo on the guitar provides visual reminder that I’m playing in a different key)
I’ve googled it and see there are some effects/devices like Pitch that allow me to map it to a knob, but I think that buttons would be better than a knob because they would allow for more fine control.
How can I do this?
Thanks, Dan
