PC users in the Live10 beta team, is WASAPI supported?

Post by nc2010 » Thu Dec 07, 2017 6:15 pm

I mean are there new options like WASAPI here?

If you're a PC users in the Live 10 beta team, could you check? Thanks in advance :)

(bonus: it would not transform your laptop's realtek built-in soundcard into a RME, but it would at least make it much lower latency). Many DAW have it already.

No WASAPI support in WIN10. I am here on WIN10 64 Bit running L10 beta.

But what is the advantage of WASAPI compared to asio4all?

Cheers, Bastian

Thanks for having looked at it.

Benefit: WASAPI should be multi-client, i.e. you can go from Live to Soundforge without having to disable audio in Live each time you do ALT+TAB.

This knowledge base post claims that WASAPI drivers are "rarely used", and that no support is planned. No idea when it was posted though.

Yeah I also read that. Of course we rarely use it (we can even say "we never use it") if our DAW doesn't support it :D

If someone in the PC beta team can tell them that 1) Nearly other DAWs have it 2) It would allow low latency on all devices (including laptop's built in audio interface) 3) It would be a huge benefit over non-multi-client ASIO4ALL for all bedroom producers.

FL has its own non-exclusive low latency driver. I don't know how did they do.

If you are serious about using music software ASIO is the only real option in windows. WASAPI has big latency and doesn't prioritize audio processes, lots o dropouts with it.

I believe the last version of ASIO4all is multiclient.

Steinberg ASIO drivers are multiclient too.

None. No replies to my post, but it's got a whopping great three votes. :-)

As for WASAPI having "big latency", it shouldn't have. In exclusive mode it's apparently capable of <10ms.

IMO if you're "serious about using music software" then you shouldn't be using (or even posting about) ASIO4ALL.

I use a RME, but that isn't cheap for everyone, I suppose if anyone is using WASAPI it is because they are not using an external audio interface, to begin with.

Majority of users are laptop users. It's not realistic to suppose everyone use Live with audio i/f.

What if you're not serious enough (it's a hobby) but still want to get the benefits that WASAPI provides in other DAWs, like Bitwig? :P

And those are?

The reason WASAPI is probably not offered is because for something like Live it SUX!

It would just pop and crack constantly as well as introduce a huge delay. The next thread would be "How can I make audio work better without a dedicated interface/ASIO"

Even for a hobbyist you need to be prepared for the fact you need an audio interface for this kind of thing. If you can find a different DAW that allows you to use WASAPI then go with that for your hobby. No one says you need to use Live if that is one of your requirements.
