Bass sound is muffled

Hi everyone,

There is a problem with a certain track of mine that is driving me crazy:

I have a short clip with distorted bass. When I start playing the clip starting from the beginning of the clip, it sounds perfect, highlighted in this image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8lnxo5bna34v2kh/Two.PNG?dl=0

However, when I start playing my set anywhere before the beginning of the clip, the entire bass sound becomes quieter and muffled, highlighted in this image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qfxe0dfbjcliv7d/One.PNG?dl=0

What's wrong? I'm beginning to believe this is a bug.

Not sure I completely understand, when you play the clip from the beginning of the clip with the rest of the project, not soloed, it sounds fine but when you play it from the beginning of the project the clip sounds wrong?

Its a MIDI instrument right? Have you tried freezing it to see if if still happens? Do you have automation that for some reason only kicks in from the start? Any heavy limiting going on maybe?

If a sound has glide/slide/portamento/legato/etc, then it can sound completely different depending on the note sequence.

I think it could also be if there is an internal oscillator that starts at a given point relative to the playhead, then it could give inconsistent results starting the playhead at different positions. I've had this issue before, it is likely related to the instrument/synth settings. As pottering said, articulation could be a cause.
