Can you chain scenes (like a song mode) without Arrange?

Post by CMSCSS » Fri Jan 05, 2018 9:43 am

Hi there,

I’m new to Live (demo version) so might be using the wrong search terms. I’m looking for a way to stay in session veiw for as long as possible (to keep the flexible non-linear editing workflow) but still build out a song or an arrangement.

Is there a way to have scenes play in an order (like pattern chaining or a song mode) and loop particular scenes (e.g. loop scene one 4x etc) from session view?

I might be wrong, but as soon as you record an arrangement, you’re now using arrange view right? So any arrange edits/tweaks get lost if you tweak scenes and re-record into arrange - is that right?

Hopefully that makes sense, any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Ben

Try searching "clip follow actions", I think this is what you're looking for.

Interesting tool, it looks more complicated than I need (a simple song mode) but will get to know it and see how I go.

Thanks for that, cheers

Darren,

Can the Follow Scene devices be configured directly from the Push 3 Standalone?

Thanks,

Neil

There are some advanced elements that would still require MIDI mapping but the main features of being able to change which follow action is being used on the fly have all been mapped to the Push encoders so should work without issue.

Great. Thanks for the info.

I’m exploring different solutions for laying out a full song structure on the Push 3S. So far, Eclipxe’s Song Mode and Scene Chainer devices are proving to be easy solutions.

I could see Follow Scene also being useful for some scenarios, and a different workflow. Any other recommendations to explore?

In the future maybe some enterprising individuals will create something like XY’s Song Sketch 2, but for scenes…. or a scene sequencing device with a takeover mode that work for Push 3S, allowing a person to use the duplicate button to visually sequence/copy-paste scenes similar to how clips can be copied and pasted. I’m getting ahead of myself. For now, thanks for the info. :D
