CPU use L9 vs L10

Sorry for the double post. I asked this question on the system requirements thread but maybe no-one is looking at that anymore.

Can any of the beta testers give their thoughts on CPU usage with Live 10 compared to Live 9?

I'm on an older Windows laptop at the moment and am not going to be able to update it until later in the year.

If performance is pretty similar I'll jump in now and get the pre-order discount. Otherwise, I think I'll wait until I upgrade.

Thanks!

I'd say so far it appears the same though I haven't gone in-depth with comparisons and my system is pretty high end so most things run pretty smooth.

The CPU meter is much more responsive and faster updating so it's much easier to get a visual on how things work. I would say there may be a slight decrease in load but as I said, haven't compared side by side, just notice some older projects use a fraction less CPU but that could also be updated VSTs too.

Thanks jestermgee.

Improved performance .. that sounds promising.

Wonder if any other beta testers have mere mortal setups like mine? :wink:

I've been using L10Beta for about two weeks now, and have seen no difference in performance either. It behaves a little different, say smoother or so. Try the beta first now you can, before you buy I would say.....

Thanks miyaru. Can you still trial the beta?

... just answered my own question. Downloading now!

If anyone is interested ...

Live 10 seems to be running pretty well on my old Dell (a measly 1.8GHz dual-core i7).

Old projects seem to run about the same in both Live 9 and 10 ... it's a bit hard to gauge because the CPU meter does jump around a bit but I think that's just this laptop.

Haven't had a chance to fire up the Push 2 yet ... looking forward to that.

I think I'll be upgrading.

The real test is adding test tracks until audio crackles. No need to gauge any meters.

Anyone willing to make a benchmark and put on YT?
Appreciated.

True ... If I cared that much :wink:

Just needed to check it wasn't all going to come to a crashing halt by upgrading. I'm comfortable enough with my very non-scientific testing to know I'll be ok until I can update my machine later in the year.

Or you could just do as miyaru suggested and download the beta.
I was up and running with it in 10mins. Best to test on your own system anyway.

Benchmarks on PC's are difficult anyway: to many factors:

* OS type
* Mobo
* CPU
* Amount and type of RAM
* What sort of drives
* etc.

Tuesday is the big day, then we will all know what the final version will do in our system! I think every PC/Mac which is a bit recent, decent and powerfull will do for the majority of the projects. In my system the bottleneck is the wrong choice of storage: I have a datadisk which is an HDD. With about 100 audiotracks the system gets a disk overload. If I place the project on my M2 drive: no problems!

So testing is in my opnion only usefull if it is a real live situation.

I did back in December. But I removed 10, since I am in the middle of a large project. I don't want anything to be messed up.

I'm lucky if I have 10! :P

Trackcount is mostly a thing of the speed and accestime of a drive. Proberly you have a 4200rpm drive in your laptop, which was common back then..... Be patient, save money for a nice new laptop, and you are good to go with many tracks!!!!

I wouldn't know what to do with them if I had them! :D
