Major Bummer: Listen to what you see in Sampler?

Post by Stefan Jantschek » Thu Feb 01, 2018 7:41 am

- Open Sampler
- Drop in 50+ Samples
- Select all
- Select Distribute Ranges equally for velocity

Now try to edit some of your Samples.

- You can select them comfortably
- You can replace/edit/reverse... what ever you want.
- Waveform, zoom, everything...

But you can not hear what you did!

You need to hit a Key with an exact match of velocity.
And if you do some random select modulation, you are really in the mess.

Where is the button to make you hear what you see??
I can´t believe that i am the only one who suffers here.
Am i missing something fundamental?

Thanks!

...to set it to every single Sample you want to edit?
And even if you do so, what about random sample select/round robin, etc?
No way, sorry.

If you distribute them to specific velocity ranges, then of course you need to hit the right velocity to hear the right sample...
You could instead distribute to key ranges for editing purpose, and then distribute to velocities.

Of course there is no audition button in Live's sampler.
ctrl + left/right = select transient

ctrl + shift + left/right = select between transients

ctrl + space = play selection

I have 30 samples equally distributed over the whole key range.
There is a random LFO wave modulating Zone Shift in Pitch/Osc Tab.
Creamy top - that´s a rack on a single drum pad.
Now i need to fine tune some of the samples.

You really mean i need to deconstruct all my Modulations/Layers/Sample arranges just to hear
the samples that i am able to see?

No Stefan, I'm just saying that it makes sense regarding the current implementation of Sampler. Of course an improvement in this area would make life easier.
