"Reset this PC" in Windows 10

Post by mackie » Fri Mar 09, 2018 11:03 pm

I have to do a reset after (I assume) Windows 10 update bricked my older PC.

I have Ableton, NI, etc...

Should I do the reset option that deletes all files, and just reload everything from scratch?

Or should I do the reset option that allows me to keep my "personal files"? Then download Ableton, NI, etc??

Sorry for such a basic question, but I've never had to do this before.

That new fall creators' update also did that to me.

I started by resetting it and kept my files, but then windows update decided to take me through the same problem.
I ended up finding a solution that worked:

I went on google and searched the name of the update, google showed me a page (almost at the bottom of the results) which explains how you can actually download the update and save it offline before installing. It involves the "media creation tool". Once you install the update from offline, it will stop bothering you and you can safely keep your apps and files.

I know I didn't help much since I don't have the links to where I got that help, but a google search can help you find light at the end of this tunnel.
