Sustain Pedal - Can it be used for incremental CC data?

Hi Guys,

Maybe I have misunderstood what a Sustain Pedal does. Maybe its just for on/off triggers but I'm wondering can a standard Midi Pedal be used to input incremental CC data.

Example:
Routing its CC to control a Midi FX WAHWAH in realtime as you might record a live Guitar in ABE.

Welcome anyone's thoughts or clarification as google is not showing much.

A sustain pedal is just a non-latching on/off switch. So it sends on and off and nothing else.

What might work is an expression pedal, which is a potentiometer in a wah-like body so it can be used as a variable controller. They don’t send MIDI or anything else though. They have to be connected to an input that’s intended for expression pedals - many controller keyboards have an expression pedal input and the controller can usually be set up to use them to send CCs. Some synths and effects units also have inputs for expression pedals and some stuff can use them as an alternative to an external CV source.
