Grouping clips in Session view

Post by G-Pop » Tue Feb 05, 2019 1:10 am

Can ya? ;)

I work a lot like a studio of old;
I Create clips in Lives Session view from recordings, MIDI etc,.

I would like to be able to select a group of clips, "group" them,
and then move them around like a single object (oriented programming!)
which would make final arrangements in Lives session view much easier
to do, and to arrange/re-arrange possible song sections. (swap versions)

What are my chances I missed something in the manual?
Searches of it and of this forum run dry on "Group Clips" and variations.

Yes, you can... if by "grouping" them you mean that in Session View you want to select a bunch of clips, across many tracks, and save them as a "group" of clips on your hard drive in order to be able to re-import this "group" into any Session afterwards?

Simply select a bunch of clips and drag them into one of your folders in the Browser. Live will create a file containing all the clips. Drag this file back into any Session to (re)import this group of clips.

Tried it step-by-step and it wouldn't work.
I made the folder in my "current Project" folder, so I figured that may be it's issue.
I then made another "grouped clips" folder in "User Library" and that wouldn't drag and drop
either... Odd.

I guess to move groups I'll have to select them every time, and to duplicate I'll
just have to select, copy and paste. The "grouping" of items comes from my
experience in vector graphics and animation / video editing programs.
(I'm a multi-talented/faceted individdle!) ;)

Grouping there is more for moving a lot of objects but keeping their spacial
relationship to each other. With those programs I can also just select the group with
ONE click, copy>paste and "duplicate" and get a really serious productive edge going on.

Maybe a "wish-list" item. Depends on what else in Live this might interfere with!

If you can figure out what I'm doing wrong please let me know.
PS: The clips are all on one track, one voicing; a Synth.
The group(ing) represents that voice for one verse... nice to be able to duplicate
without a lot of clickiing each clip to add three more verses, etc,.
