Focusrite + 1/4 cable gives constant hum/buzz noise while recording in Ableton

Post by Frida_999 » Wed Feb 27, 2019 11:54 pm

Hi!
Every time I record synth or guitar as audio in Ableton i have constant hum/buzz noise on background.
My set-up: MacBook - Focusrite 6i6 - 1/4 cable - guitar/synth.
Even if guitar/synth is not connected but 1/4 cable is in Focusrite it's still gives that horrible buzz noise, in any input.
No noise when I connect mic through XLR cable, only when 1/4 is connected.
I've tried 3 different 1/4 cables, same noise with all of them.
Any suggestions how to get rid of that noise?
Thanks!

probably a ground loop. are you using your MacBook on battery or mains power? if you are using mains power, are you using a 2 or 3 prong plug?

also, the synth should be going into a line input, and the guitar into one of the instrument inputs.
