Issues with Recording Vinyl sets w/ Scarlett Audio Interface

Hi everyone,

I've just upgraded my mac to the 2018 pro model (2x fireport usb) and I'm struggling with being able to record my vinyl mixes into either Ableton or Audacity. Other Tech: good condition 1210 Mk2's, Numark M1 mixer, various cheap cables and connectors into the Scarlett.

With Audacity, audio only comes through the right channel, no audio at all on the left. when switching to mono recording there's no audio at all. Suffers from the same audio issues as below.

With Ableton, I can get the audio in but the quality is horrendous, sounds very tinny and far-off. Slight increases in volume or gain have a massive increase in artefacts and noise.

I've dragged myself around every FAQ and forum but I'm not finding anything helpful. Does anyone have any advice?

Hmmm, very interesting. So, are you going from the master outs from your mixer into the Scarlett?

The fact that one channel isn't producing any output is pretty odd. I assume you can hear everything okay from your speakers?

Which Scarlett?
Any more details on these and where they enter the Scarlett?

Yeah everything is good coming out of the speakers.

It's a focusrite scarlett solo 2i2 2nd gen.

I've got a cable taking the record channel from the mixer into the right hand channel on the focusrite. It's connected with a reasonably decent headphone jack adapter.

If you want stereo, you need to use both channels on the interface.

So just plugging anything in to the channel should solve it, or do I need to split the record audio so that it goes into both?

Thanks!

You don't want to use that, it's a stereo jack, and the Scarlett inputs are mono.

If caught the right Numark you want a pair like these: Cordial CFU 3 PC – Thomann UK;

I'm not sure where the second jack will go into? there's only one 6.3 mm input on the model of the scarlett i have. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Focusrite-Scar ... B01E6T56CM

Damn, I skipped the "Solo" in your previous post.

That's a single input (i.e. one mono channel) interface and does not fit your application. You need at least two inputs.

Ha.

Okay, so should this be a better option?

or, do you have good suggestion for a decent affordable soundcard?

Yes, the 2i2 would be the bare minimum if you're sticking to the Focusrites.

They are affordable and solid.

I own a Saffire (their older Firewire line) myself, and there's one thing I don't like too much about them: When you use the line in from the front inputs it's hard to dial in the input gain because the controls are very logarithmic. I very much prefer the rear inputs for line in, they're fixed gain. But you only get those from the 6i6 upwards.

Okay great.

Thanks so much for all your help. You wouldn't believe how much time I spent trying to find that information!
