Hi
I have the Places wheel spinning forever too. Worse still, when Ableton LIVE 10 LITE is running, YouTube web pages just won't load in my Chrome browser. It's as if Ableton is hogging all the network bandwidth or something. If I close Chrome, close Ableton LIVE and re-open Chrome, then I can load YouTube web pages successfully again and watch videos. But if I pause a video, then start up Ableton LIVE 10 LITE, the YouTube video refuses to continue or play and I cannot load any other YouTube videos. I have quite a low spec Windows 10 PC, 4GB RAM and a 1.10GHz Celeron N4100 CPU, but surely I should be able to watch YouTube videos and have Ableton running in the background (doing nothing.)
What is wrong, does anyone know?

Maybe it’s because Ableton has the soundcard in use?

I wonder if:
A) It’s just a GUI error and not actually taxing anything
B) It is using up resources and a bug that needs attention ASAP

In any case it’s still not solved and is mildly unnerving.

same issue.

On windows, 10.1.14 - spins endlessly

ableton index.exe running on task manager.

How do I stop it indexing. I only have some Ableton packs and nothing in the user library.

It is all on an internal HDD though and not my c://drive?

I think someone at some point reported that in his case this was due to some of his files containing special characters in their name. But I don't remember anything else really, and the same issue can be caused by many different things especially on windows machines.

Thanks for the reply. Following the thread here looks like this problem occurs even when nothing is in the folder and a fresh install has taken place.

I have literally nothing in my user library and this is still a problem (only just got live)

It's hogging memory all the time, and never goes away.

I've contacted support a while back, but unfortunately no reply.

Can you remember where you saw the fix with regards to characters?

Update:

If I save a couple of presets within my user library it finally stops spinning (previously I had nothing in there - not samples, presets clips or anything)

However, in task manager ableton index . exe is still taking up around 86mb of memory.

Any idea why?

I have the same problem... Fresh computer, windows 10, Ableton is basically first program I installed. No samples, no plugins, nothing. Clean Ableton Live Standart and wheel is spinning.

Any fix for this? I've pnly just purchased Live 10 about a week ago, and it hasn't stopped spinning since..

Id there any index file or something that I can delete that regenerates on reopening?

I've noticed this as well. I thought it was eternal but at some point during a session I checked and it had stopped, so I don't know for how long it spinned. Definitely more than an hour.
I'm not too bothered though, as while spinning, the task manager shows mostly 0% on CPU and Disk, with occasional short bumps to 0.4 max. And memory stays around 136 Mb, which is nothing.
