Ableton 10 + MAC: Drag & Drop problem
Ableton 10 + MAC: Drag & Drop problem
I've recently upgraded to Abe10 and am using Mac OSX 10.11.6
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro11,3
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 16 GB
I'm trying trying to drag and drop audio files direct from a 'finder' window into audio tracks in Ableton and more often than not this results in a frozen-like mouse state...
When doing so, the cursor turns into a circle with a diagonal line through it (like a 'no entry' sign) and although I see a 'grey-ed' out version of the audio clip (as if it is being imported) it doesn't actually populate the audio track and when i move the cursor the 'ghost' clip just follows the cursor around instead as if I've not released my mouse click. When in this state, if I hover over the 'mix/edit window' or 'show/hide browser' toggles Abe responds as if I'm clicking that too; essentially giving the impression that Abe thinks my mouse button (click) is still held down even though it isn't.
The only way I've found past this 'locked-up' state is to close Ableton, but this is by no means a solution as the problem re-occurs when I re-boot.
(An obvious suggestion would be to use the file browser instead, but I cannot audition audio clips efficiently this way; particularly as I can't scroll through longer clips or songs.)
Is this a known issue with Abe10? ...Can anyone recommend a fix?
Thanks in advance...

That's something I've reported a few times, but it seems it hasn't been reproduced in-house yet.
So please, report (including a status pack from the Help menu > get support) to support@ableton.com
thx

Which audio file formats?
I've not (yet?) had a problem dragging in wav, aif, m4a or mp3 files.
Live 10.1, OS 10.14.5.

The file's format doesn't seem to matter.
I'm suspecting this to be a El Capitan only issue. That's what the OP and I are using.

Re: Ableton 10 + MAC: Drag & Drop problem
Happens sometimes dragging long files like 2-3 min various file types.
The file just travels on the arrangement page and can not let go as mouse clicking does not respond.
Mac Mojave. UAD or internal audio. iMac2017 MB Pro 2018

Re: Ableton 10 + MAC: Drag & Drop problem
I consistently have this exact problem, has happened over the last two operating systems and my current one Mojave. Super frustrating when it happens. I have noticed it happens if I drag from finder onto an empty track, not as often when I drag to the bottom of the screen where it says 'drop files and devices here'. I have to force quit the session and reload a few times before it will work properly.
Re: Ableton 10 + MAC: Drag & Drop problem
Exactly the same problem. It is maddening. Locks up Live and I have to force quit then restart. Been happening for the last year (previous and current OX S). Doesn't;t happen from the browser, only Finder.

Please don't forget to report this to support@ableton.com
I believe we still don't have any clue on how to reproduce so more data/reports are welcome.

Same problem here.
Sometimes by trying again to drag the same file I can get it to work more or less properly - it then places two copies of the file back to back in the timeline.
