latency

Post by Flange » Wed Jul 24, 2019 10:13 pm

Ive noticed that there is a slight delay between when i press the key on my midi keyboard and hear the sound. I did a search and read that I have to change the buffer size to lower latency. Im not sure which buffer? the input or output? I currently have input set 512, output set at 1024 and my sound card 512 but still there is a delay. Its impossible for me to play my keyboard with a delay

Change the output. 1024 is going to give you a delay, bnut depending on what sound card you have if it goes too low it may cause pops and clicks especially if you are windows and not using an ASIO driver. Try aim for 256 or 128 which should be ok.

I suggest you consider using asio and use Asio4all it's gonna be a game changer. Then press the configure hardware and choose your where your output comes out of. And play with the buffer size and see what's best for you. I use asio on 41000 and never had problems with delay in midi key press and when I do have delay problems it's with my synths and then I increase or decrease the buffer size and it is working great

i switched my audio to Asio and that fixed it. I have no idea what that even is. But now Im noticing some of my plugins midi notes lagging a bit. I changed the interface buffer to 2048. Thats the highest it goes. How do I fix the lagging?

your midi notes are lagging because your buffer size is at 2048. if you hover above the buffer size chooser you'll notice that it says " <-lower latency reduce glitches->". 2048 will be in higher quality and indeed reduce glitches but in the cost of higher latency. I suggest you play around with the buffer size and see what fits best.

if you need further help I'll be happy to assist you.

Turn Option>Delay Compensation OFF.
And buffer size to 512sp
That should fix your problem.
