Can No Longer UnArm track using MIDI controller

Post by craftycurate » Tue Jul 30, 2019 10:14 pm

Hi

For years I've had a Live setup where I can arm and unarm different tracks using mapped buttons on my MIDI controller (Edirol PCR800 keyboard). I have buttons MIDI mapped to the Track Arm.

Previously this worked like a toggle i.e. same button to arm and unarm a track.

However, now, un-arming via the MIDI controller no longer works, though arming still works fine.

Have I missed some feature change here? I haven't reconfigured the MIDI controller in any way. I had a look at the manual to see if anything has changed but I couldn't find any explanation.

UPDATE: I notice that mapping keys to the same Arm controls suffers from the same issue - I can only arm tracks but not unarm them. Has a bug crept in?

I’m on Live 10.1 Suite on Windows 7.

Any help appreciated!

Cheers
Richard

Are you able to arm your channel if you press the mapped midi button twice? If so, that button is set to toggle on your midi controller and you'll need to change it to momentary. I think that is something new with live 10.

No I only need to press it once to arm it, or did you mean "unarm"? Once the track is armed, it cannot be unarmed using MIDI or key mapping.

However the problem is intermittent, and it seems to be working fine again. Will keep an eye on it.

Ableton support got back today to say they've had a few reports of this issue and are investigating.

I am having a similar behaviour on Live 10.1.5. It works smoothly on Live 9.7.6.

I tried mapping a key and I have the same result: it arms/unarms on Live 9.7.6 and it just arms the track on Live 10.1.5.

It's frustrating!

I'm seeing the same issue here in Ableton 10.1.3. My MIDI map can only toggle Arm Track to 'on'. It cannot then toggle it back to 'off' when I use the same command.

Would definitely like to get this working.

what are you assigning it to? a knob? what's listed in the max/min values in the MIDI mappings window?

In my case, I am assigning to a button on my controller. I have been doing this for 6 or 7 years without a problem: it always arm/unarm the channel. Not anymore with the update to Live 10…

Are you sure you are not talking of the "implicit arm" feature introduced by Push ? Is the arm button slightly different ?
Does it happen with no control surface enabled ?

The arm button is the same as always. The toggle behaviour doesn't respond when mapping a key either.

I also had the same problem, this is how i solved it.
Preferences > (Link MIDI) > In Output column select none and Turn off all your MIDI Output
I hope that it solves your problem.

Just found this in another thread an it works:

"Re: What does the light red Arm button mean?
Post by Yoko_Ono » Tue Aug 13, 2013 10:53 am

I figured it out. The light red arm button only appears, when Push is in Notemode. Switch back to Session Mode (The to buttons above the cursors with push), if you want to for example overdub automation. Then Ableton wont record on the track but just overdub the automation, when you hit record. Hope I could help.
jk"

That means just bring the push in the session mode if its in note mode. Do this with the "Session" button on the push.
