Controlling note choice with keyboard and note-on with drum trigger

Post by paulconstantine » Wed Aug 07, 2019 4:11 pm

I'm trying to set up the following for live performance in Live 10.1.

I have a standard piezo trigger attached to my kick drum run thru a trigger-MIDI interface into Live. Then I also have an Akai Mini mk2 (two-octave MIDI controller keyboard) connected via USB.

I want to hold a note on the keyboard without producing any sound. Then, when I kick the kick drum, the trigger signal produces the audio corresponding to the note I'm holding on the keyboard. If I hold a different note on the keyboard and kick the drum again, a different pitch sounds.

As a consequence, a bass (for example) can be perfectly sync'd with the kick drum, since they're triggered by the same event (kicking the kick drum).

I've set this all up in Reason 10 using their internal CV routings (so it is possible). And I can run that into Live via ReWire. But I'd much prefer to do it all natively in Live, if possible, to save CPU for live performance. Any ideas?

I don't have "suite" -- not sure what that is. I'm not opposed to Max, but I don't have any experience with it.

You can MIDI assign not only a single key, but a range of keys to any MIDI assignable parameter.

Like the Pitch knob in the Pitch device.

I don't immediately see how that (multiple MIDI notes triggering the same parameter) helps. Perhaps you could explain?

They don't simply trigger the same parameter, they "play" the parameter up or down, so if you assign a range of keys to Pitch's Pitch knob, it will transpose the notes up and down.

Thanks, but I still don't see how this applies to my original question.
