Lag (not latency) in ableton

My friend asked me about a problem I've not come across before.

It was file specific, but he had lag on everything, like from fades, to mutes, to anything he did. The mute button would be pressed and a few moments later the track would mute, for instance. Faders move, you'd get an EQ sweep a few moments after.

We thought maybe he had too many instances of Serum running, so deleted some, but whatever it was stayed with the set even when he was down to 1 track left with inbuilt instrument only, and still the problem persisted.

We copied everything to a new file, and, so far so good, but anyone had an issue like this? Anyone know what causes this? Anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks

Your description sounds exactly like high latency (which affects mutes and faders).

If you don't find latency inducing settings somewhere (like Track Delay or an FX in the Return Tracks/Master), could be a bug, he/she should contact Ableton with and Status Report and the project with problems.
