Layered synths - Multi vs. Single track setup

Post by RedSkyRoad » Sun Nov 17, 2019 3:04 am

Hi,

I like layering VST synths to achieve the desired sound. Question : Which uses the least resources - setting each synth up in its own track or layering them in an instrument rack? I read somewhere that the CPU threading work more efficient if each synth is in its own track. Could this be a significant improvement?

You will make better use of CPU resources if you have things on separate tracks as threads are on a per-track basis, not per device.

Thanks for the information...

This is what I feared. Having multiple MIDI clips really messed with my workflow. Any way of using ONE midi clip to run two or more tracks?

AWESOME - I've tried this. My MIDI track is sending data to the other synths but ZERO sound now...

Did you set the monitor to IN for the receiving tracks?

Without a screenshot, not much more ideas here

YAY!!! It worked!

Thanks for the help. I'm going to get busy RIGHT now splitting layers up!

PS: Macro Control over multi tracks?

The only solution for macro controls for multiple tracks I can think of, is routing the VSTs to one group and use effects there.

I came across a few threads that talk about a "free" solution called MACROBAT. I can't find any FREE MACROBATS anywhere, just the ClyphX Pro that costs a lot...

I think I'm going to go back to layering my synths in the racks instead of different tracks. I had ZERO noticeable CPU drop when splitting the layers over different tracks. The hassle that comes with it is not worth it...

Thanks again for the information
