Video export - suddenly - VERY limited!
Video export - suddenly - VERY limited!
So - did I miss something major here? I've been exporting video from Ableton regularly throughout the years, and suddenly there's only 3 options (Mpeg, Apple Mpeg, Quicktime), where there used to be a much more flexible structure of different options and settings? I haven't updated anything, neither my OSX nor Ableton, and now I can't export video like I used to do! The passage I need to output at the moment is a part where I've been timestretching a lot, and Ableton outputs error messages instead of video... Can anyone shed any light on this?
I guess I must have updated Ableton since I last exported any video, just can't remember me doing it. Must have been my sleepwalking me on the computer...

i don't know if your equipment/software list in your signature is up-to-date, however Apple deprecated QuickTime years ago, which is one possible reason why you are seeing less options...
Re: Video export - suddenly - VERY limited!
Which version of Live are you running? Your sig says 8.6.4 on a very outdated OS X version. I doubt Ableton have suddenly released an update to Live 8...
As for Quicktime, it's not that deprecated - it's still supported on Macs at least. Including on Catalina according to Apple.

i'm talking about the underlying multimedia frameworks, not QuickTime Player, if that's what you are referring to.
AVFoundation is the newer stuff that has replaced the long-deprecated QuickTime frameworks:

Your Live updated without you noticing it...
from L10.1.2 release notes:
"On macOS, Live now uses AVFoundation instead of QTKit / QuickTime for MP3 decoding, video playback and video export. The MP3 experience should be unchanged. Video playback and exporting is now much faster. Some videos using old formats can no longer be played back. For a list of formats that are no longer supported, see https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT209000 (Note: this article is about FinalCut, but applies to Live's video support as well.) While running macOS Mojave (10.14) or earlier, such videos can be converted into a supported format by opening them in QuickTime Player (see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202884 for more information).
Please read this Knowledge Base article."

Big thanks for helping me clear this out.
I just realized that my machines and osxs and software has changed quite a bit since I last wrote here - just updated my info - I'm on Ableton 10.1.5 and OSX 10.12.6.
Just to check if there's something wrong with my Ableton copy or something - do you guys also have just these 3 options when outputting video? If so - when did Ableton trim down the possibilities to just these 3? Mysterious...

It changed as quoted above, with L10.1.2 which replaces Quicktime with AVFoundation.
