What's with the crashes?
What's with the crashes?
So, I have Ableton standard. And have been experiencing crashes on almost every session.
Is Ableton crash happy? I never experienced this with Cubase or other daws. I have a 6 core laptop, 16gb ram. nvme drives.... Not really sure. It happend when. Adding tracks, has happened when adding effects.... Crazy.

Mine's pretty stable, too. The only time it throws a wobbly is if I live a session open overnight and my computer goes to sleep...

Re: What's with the crashes?
I'm using Live 10 Suite, and I've got crashes from time to time.
My sets are pretty heavy regarding CPU use, and I noticed it's related to it : when I'm often experiencing lags and CPU pops/clicks (i.e. when the CPU meter shows more than 80/90 %), Live can crash unexpectedly (quite often while closing the set, so it's not so problematic).
When it's a very simple Live set under the 50% CPU meter, it almost never happens (but it happens sometimes).
I'm using almost only third party plugins, and I noticed some of them "could" be more "crash friendly" because they crash often Live while tweaking them : for exemple Equick from DMG Audio (but I love this plugin and use it all the time, so it may just be a statistical bias).
I noticed too that it depends from the Live version and the plugins versions : with the exact same plugins and Live set, I can have more or less crashes depending on the Live version and the plugins version (Equick had some very nice update recently and I've got impression I've got less crashes since some time).
And regarding Live version, with the last update Live is crashing often while closing. Before it was crashing more while mixing...

Re: What's with the crashes?
Pretty stable on my end, though I did report a bug where every time I tried to use the detail view scroller Live would crash. It only seemed to happen with one project and I'm guessing it had somehow become corrupted.
Re: What's with the crashes?
What interface and buffer settings/latency are you guys at?
Re: What's with the crashes?
I’ve found the most recent Live 10.x releases to be very stable.
MacBook Pro, RME UFX interface, usually a 64 or 128 sample buffer at 44.1KHz.

Live 10 Suite, 2020 27" iMac, 3.6 GHz i9, MacOS Catalina, RME UFX, assorted synths, guitars and stuff.

Re: What's with the crashes?
A more suitable question for you would be what is your:
- Audio interface + setting?
- Live version?
- Plugins in use?
- laptop Model + Specs? ("6 core" is only a small fraction of information)
All DAWs will crash. I used Cubase SX3 for years and it liked to crash, as too did, Nuendo, Fruity Loops, Buzz Tracker... I occasionally get a crash with Live too, but nothing out of the norm really.

Re: What's with the crashes?
All my crashes I had recently was due to elicencer and reFX Nexus. Apparently you have to have eLicencer open in the background while using the synths that use it. It's a workaround reFX suggested. Steinberg is working on a fix...
