MIDI Controller plays wrong note
MIDI Controller plays wrong note
Hello I have i2-control 61 pro it has been a while since I used that one but I remember it working correctly. Now It seems that it transposes notes very randomly for example when I play middle C it shows me a A flat of a different octave. I read thought couple of forums and couldn't get an answer. For example I tried to find a right control surface in an Ableton menu, change input or output options but it remains wrong. I would appreciate a helping hand

Re: MIDI Controller plays wrong note
So are you saying that you press a "C" note on your keyboard but in Live it shows visually an A note (different note)?
That wouldn't be a pitch bend issue as pitch bend just affects the played note and doesn't transpose anything so you would hear an issue but see nothing on the display of Live that would be wrong.
Either something strange with the keyboard or another attached device (i'd disconnect everything but a single device to start with) or there is some device in Live doing midi transposition

Re: MIDI Controller plays wrong note
If the piano roll editor shows a note other than the one you played then it’s almost certainly not the pitch bend wheel. If the piano roll shows the correct note but the pitch comes out wrong then it’s worth checking that the controller’s pitch bend wheel isn’t sending data when it shouldn’t be. I use the free MIDI Monitor application on my Mac to see exactly what’s going on with MIDI messages. For PC MIDIoX can do the same thing. If there is pitch bend data being sent it should show up in such software. It might also show up as clip automation in session view if you’ve recorded clips in session view.
Another possibility is a software or hardware synth that’s set to transpose pitch or has an incorrectly set oscillator pitch control function - often called “tuning” on hardware synths.
If the piano roll editor shows an incorrect note as well as the possibility that there’s a transposition plugin acting on the MIDI - though they usually sit after the editor - check that the controller is sending the correct note data - MIDI monitoring applications can confirm which notes the controller is sending. It might even be that there’s a controller setting which transposes the keyboard or some notes. Not all controllers can do that, but some can.

Re: MIDI Controller plays wrong note
so I tried it out with MIDI Monitor App for Mac
the following is me pressing C - D - E each one for 5 times in a roll
I am not quite sure how to read those numbers 66 - 74
pretty sure though, midi gives out a wrong signal (as my other lil midi synth go through just alright)
what should I do next?
is it up to keyboard repair now?
also across the internet I saw a couple of comment, people hold same midi - experience same troubles
thanks much for such a detailed reply btw <3

Re: MIDI Controller plays wrong note
According to the manual you can find on the internet (do a search for "i2-control 61 keyboard manual"), that keyboard has a transpose function that would produce exactly the problem you're seeing. It says:

Moose
Hope this helps,With the # and b keys you can increase or decrease the notes by halftones. If you want to transpose by 3 semitones: Press the MIDI/SELECT, then the # key, and use the DATA ENTRY knob (in the display you see 3 for three semitones) then press the MIDI/SELECT knob again to finish the change.
