Is there anywhere that Live 10 can be purchased?
I only see 11 available, but I'd like to upgrade from 9 to 10, not 9 to 11.
Ask support@ableton.com
Any reason you don't want L11?
Got it resolved! I want 10 rather than 11 for compatibility with others on my team that use 10 rather than 11.

Makes sense. Glad you sorted it out.

I have done extensive tests on both a MacbookPro and a brand new PC, you can check resulsts in this other topic : viewtopic.php?f=1&t=242943

As I've checked performance with 16, 128, 256, 384 and 512 tracks it doesn't really fit here but I thought it might interest people.

I came to the factual conclusion that Live 11 Windows version is significantly slower than Live 10, whilke the macOS versions do not show such difference.

Mmmmhhhh seems I lost some performance between windows 10 and new versions of live. It is strange since I get way fewer pops and cracks now in win10.

Just trying to recap my results, with the old tests in my current configuration, all this using an audio buffer of 256

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter at 8 tracks - 10%
2) Laptop/Desktop: Make/Model: Custom Built Desktop PC
3) Operating System: Windows 10
4) Ableton Live version: 11.0
5) CPU Make, Model, and Speed: Intel Core i7 4790k
6) Amount of Ram: 16GB 1300MHz
7) Soundcard: RME Fireface UC
8) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know): SSD
9) Max playback tracks: I stopped at 128 with 81% CPU use

Now using the new test

1. Ableton Live CPU Meter % with the the Live Set for the Lesson. Max 40%, average 30
2. Maximum number of playback tracks: 87, the following duplication of the whole tracks gets glitches
3. Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? Custom Built Desktop PC
4. Operating System? Windows 10
5. Ableton Live version? 11
6. CPU Make, Model, and Speed? i7 4790K
7. Amount of Ram? 16 GB 1300 MHz DDR3
8. Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? RME Fireface UC, ver 1.121
9. Hard Disk type (SSD or HDD) and Speed (if you know)? eSATA SSD

doesn anyone has the Live 10 demo set and could upload it to test it? thanks

MacBook Pro M1 Pro 16GB RAM 1TB SSD (forgot to mention it is the 16" model)
Ableton Live 10 running through Rosetta 2.
144 tracks was playing fine with a small click whenever I would press pause. The CPU in Ableton was at around the high 60s jumping up to the low 70s.
When I duplicated it one last time to 160 tracks it started to get some glitching noise and the CPU in Ableton was jumping up to 90.

at 144 tracks there was no memory pressure detected in activity monitor, Ableton was using around 6-8GB by my own recollection. The User CPU was using 55% of the CPU

All running in Rosetta 2... once Ableton releases the M1 Compatible Ableton live 11 I will upgrade and hopefully have even better results. 😁

Just tried this benchmark.. interesting!

1. Ableton Live CPU Meter % with the the Live Set for the Lesson. 20 - 30%, very unsteady
2. Maximum number of playback tracks: 7 Groups = 119 Tracks, but around bar 35 there is one glitch/dropout sometimes
3. Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? MacPro5,1 2010
4. Operating System? macOS Catalina
5. Ableton Live version? 10.1.42
6. CPU Make, Model, and Speed? Xeon X5690 aka i7-990X 6C/12T @ 3.46GHz
7. Amount of Ram? 24GB 1333MHz DDR3
8. Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? UAD Apollo Silverface Rack
9. Hard Disk type (SSD or HDD) and Speed (if you know)? NVMe @ PCIe 2.0x4 // 1500MB/s read/write

I think we all missed something here.
We kept using this topic for posting results using L11... but L11's demo set isn't the same as L10's one

Hello... new here, but was interested in reviving this test, as I have a new/old trashcan Mac Pro.
I used the Live 11 demo song for this, which has 29 tracks and many, many more effects.

1. Ableton Live CPU Meter % with the the Live Set for the Lesson. 19%, jumping up to 30/40% occasionally
2. Maximum number of playback tracks: Approx 90. I tried another copy and paste of the whole set (to make 120ish) and got glitching, although it worked better with a buffer change.
3. Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? Mac Pro 6,1 2013
4. Operating System? macOS Monterey
5. Ableton Live version? 11.1.1
6. CPU Make, Model, and Speed? 3.5GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
7. Amount of Ram? 32GB 1866MHz DDR3
8. Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? None - digital out from onboard audio
9. Hard Disk type (SSD or HDD) and Speed (if you know) Apple SSD SM1024F

So, it was OK. Even at 120 tracks I seemed to have enough memory, although I think I will expand to 64GB anyway as RAM is now so dirt cheap on eBay.

I don't know how this compares to previous tests though.

The number of tracks it can handle will be fine for me, I think. It will be able to handle what I need it for. Recently I found out that "Kiss" by Prince allegedly only needed nine tracks on mixdown. Something to aspire to.

This inspired me to re-check performance of my current MacBook Pro, M1 max, 64 ram. I haven’t really checked it since Live became native, and little OS updates.

Without any issue I was over 200 of the Live 11 set. At which point I didn’t even feel it was necessary to go beyond that for my needs.

Then I got curious about Kontakt’s performance since it was native and vst3. Loaded the vst3 into several individual channels and just caked on the Melodie’s casually, like a kid playing around (my ideal scenario to be honest). Never gave me any trouble. I only have the Player and some light version of Komplete.

So, that positive experience, and realizing Kontakt was on sale, lead me to the NI site, and I upgraded to the standard Komplete bundle hehe….. all because of the most recently posted performance result.

New computer, new aalder lake i5 chip. Very excited to test this, haven't upgraded my main computer in almost 8 years

1. Ableton Live CPU Meter % with the the Live Set for the Lesson. Max 40%, average 25%
2. Maximum number of playback tracks: 348, the following duplication of the whole tracks gets glitches
3. Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? Custom Built Desktop PC
4. Operating System? Windows 11
5. Ableton Live version? 11.1
6. CPU Make, Model, and Speed? i5 12600K
7. Amount of Ram? 16 GB 3200 MHz DDR4
8. Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? RME Fireface UC, ver 1.1221
9. Hard Disk type (SSD or HDD) and Speed (if you know)? m2 NVME SSD

I lowered the buffer to 128 samples, I duplicated until 203 tracks, no problems while playing, reached 75% in the CPU meter.

So far super happy with the new computer, but wonder if Live is going to be optimized to use the alder lake architechture ot its fullest

That why i'm not understand what was wrong with the old test, where was used little attached project, and with the same rules by audiocard buffer size etc. With the new conditions, in my opinion, instead of a test, just confusion turned out.
Moreover, it was a single forum topic, regardless of the current version.
I'm still testing (comparing) my configurations on that project, and quite comfortably.

Benchmarking from the most current version and related demo set seems the most obvious solution. Why not create a new thread?

Just tested the Ninajirachi - In the Rain (Live 11 Suite) demo on my Macbook M2 and my Mini M1 both with 8GB Ram, with my Baby Face Pro set to 48kHz/64 sample buffer. Identical results, so no performance boost that I can discern with the M2. Both with Live's CPU in the 20% area.

However, with a more taxing project that I created, the M2 starts to show benefits: In activity monitor 87% M1 vs 75% M2. In Live’s CPU, 45% M1 vs 38% M2

just picked up a 16" mbp M3 Max 14 core stock, a teeny, tiny upgrade from my 13" '15 mbp. traveling for work so no access to an interface that will work with this machine- I have a FF400 hooked up to my '15 but you know, no FW support. set Live 11 Suite to 48kHz/64s, grouped the demo and duplicated until crackles... 10 crackled, 9 ran fine. total of 270 tracks. on battery too. this thing may be overkill heh, I've always gone low to mid tier on my computers but due to the configurations available (wasn't sure about the 6p+6e cores on the M3 Pro plus once you up the ram and storage might asswell throw a few hundred more for 10p+4e) said fookit.

should last a couple/few months

edit: pushes DT 880 Pro's (250 ohm) decent enough too
