CPU Spikes... why??

Post by griffjen » Wed Jul 01, 2020 9:04 pm

Working on a project with 16 tracks. Yes I have some plugins on every track, but it is by all metrics not a big project. All my other apps are quit. WHY on earth does my CPU constantly spike to the point where I have to wait for it to go back down? and then it just happens again. I tried using no groups and no bus tracks. No difference. It is impossible to work. I have a mid-2016 macbook pro. A good amount of free space, what is going on? Logic does not do this to me.

It is possible that other programs in the background are using up memory. Or, a vst in your set is overloading the CPU. Could also try freezing the suspected track/tracks and see if that helps.

Another thing, some 3rd party vsti's tend to use a lot of memory. Remember, that the AD/DA converters do a lot of calculations everytime you tweak a fader or knob, and this keeps adding up.
