Hi all,
How do I measure exactly how much gain reduction oil being applied to my signal using the Ableton compressor? There appears to me nothing to indicate how mamy dbs my signal is being reduced by except an orange bar that drops down with no markings.
THanks

Ableton's compressor doesn't have good metering..serge_a_storms wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 12:01 pmHi all,

That said it has a more detailed view with gridlines (no numbers though). You can get a decent appox using that. It is probably possible to use a test signal to measure exact gain reduction for each grid line.
What would be cool is if they made a larger view that could show more details such as gain reduction. ABLETON sort of have this but still doesnt have alot of detail.
That said besides bad metering, Ableton has a really nice sounding and tweakable compressor. Better than many DAWS IMO.

Re: Measuring Gain Reduction?
Thanks. It does seem odd that there's no metering.
Re: Measuring Gain Reduction?
It used to have, but not anymore.
But you can find and use a preset from the “old” Compressor so the device will load in legacy mode; this version has metering (if I’m remembering correctly).
