Ableton 10 - no fade squares showing up?

Hey folks -

No matter what I do I can’t get the little squares to show up to use the fade tool. Tried both in automation mode and normal, and most videos/help guides I’ve looked up either just use normal automation for sound fade or they click and the boxes are just there.

I feel silly but can’t get it to go, any ideas?

Make the track taller, they only show up once the track is a certain height.

Thanks for the feedback - what I found was you're correct, though the squares only seem to appear on imported sounds, not Ableton native sounds. Would like to make sure this is correct? Otherwise, nailed it! Thank you!
