Bking up Patches from external synth

Post by re:dream » Tue Jan 19, 2021 6:32 pm

How would I go about backing up / downloading patch settings for my external synth?

I have a Access Virus KC, about 20 years old. The batteries that power the chipset need to be replaced. But if I do that the chips will be wiped. Hence the need for a backup.

There used to be a piece of software called sounddiver that could talk to the Virus, but I don't think it is supported any more...

Any advice?

You don't say whether you're on a Mac or PC. In either case, if you just want to back up and be able to restore the patches (that is, not edit them outside the synth), any sysex librarian type of program should do.

On my Mac, I use Snoize's SysEx Librarian to back up patches on everything from my Novation Peak back to my ancient Ensoniq SQ-80.

It's been many years since I used a Windows PC, but I think MIDI-OX is still around for it.

The Sweetwater Knowledge Base has an article that describes how to use either utility.

Hope this helps
