[fixed] help please - no audio from midi keyboard

Would someone help me please? This is driving me crazy! As far as I can tell, I am doing everything right:

1) Ableton responds when I press the keyboard keys
2) Track is armed
3) VST is applied to the track

But when I press on the keys there is no sound. When I play the VST outside of Ableton there is sound.

What else can I try? So grateful for any help.

Thanks so much for responding. I have the Keylab 88 Essential. The VST plays beautifully outside of Live.

I've tried all three settings for Track Monitor - In, Auto, and Off.

I've watched so many youtube videos and searched online for help but the only tips I find just tell me to do what I've already done, so any insight would be so appreciated.

More info: I'm using Ableton Live 10 on a late 2016 MBP 15", i7, 16GB RAM, UA Apollo Twin X, 66-key Ikon nano (just a basic midi keyboard plugged in via USB, it still functions properly when I plug it into other things, e.g. midi-controlled hardware synths, Garage Band on an iPad).. and here's the crucial bit of info in my case, I'm running macOS Big Sur. Right up until the upgrade, despite Catalina, everything was working top notch.

Ok, while writing the above paragraph, I downloaded Garage Band on this laptop.. so that I could try my midi keyboard with that to test it.. and
HERE IS A BIG CLUE I DON'T UNDERSTAND:

"Error initialising CoreMIDI"

So I found a fix that's working for me:

I restarted, opened Audio MIDI setup, then MIDI Studio, saw my MIDI keyboard on the map, then opened Live, and so far it’s working!

I saw something in a forum where people had the same issue with Logic, and someone mentioned CoreMIDI taking longer to load or something. I don’t really get it, but apparently letting it preload in MIDI Studio helps.

FIXED!

I had everything set up right I just didn't select the right driver to listen from.

Options> Preferences> Audio> Driver Type>

ASIO - listen from interface
OR
MME - listen from computer speakers
