Sampler: assign many samples, each to single key?

Post by Mr D » Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:14 pm

Hi folks,

Imagine this:

I have a collection of 70 chord samples.

I want to quickly and easily assign each sample to one (and one only) key in a sampler.

So for example:

hammond_stab.wav............... to C3
JB_horns.wav..................to C#3
rhodes_chord.wav.........to D3

etc etc.

Is there any easy (drag and drop?) way to do this?

I tried with Sampler, but it will spread each sample across the entire keyboard, with predictably cacophonous results!

If not possible, are there any workarounds beyond actually manually tweaking each and every keygroup? (time consuming)

If not, is there another VST sampler that would get the job done?

Thanks!

Sampler has an option to distribute those samples evenly. You were very close when you loaded them all in. It might require selecting all their names on the left, and a right click to open the context menu. But it’s been a while. There are likely videos on YouTube or a mention in the Instrument Reference part of the manual under Sampler.

Select all green sample zones (ctrl+a) and drag their range handles so they all span 70 notes (e.g. C1 to A6) by dragging their left and right edges.
Then right-click 'Distribute Ranges Equally'

You can also dbl-click a green sample zone while holding a midi note to assign it to that note.
Alt-clicking in the zone area will set root notes too.
