Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
Alchemy still works great for me in Live 10, but in Live 11, it loads as a blank, black screen. If I play a note, it sounds like a default tone. Other plugins seem to work fine, though I have only tried a handful of my favorites.
I still have Live 10 on the computer and Alchemy still works fine as always in that version. By the way, Alchemy will not be updated, so if fixing it requires Camel Audio to update Alchemy, that's not going to happen.
Thanks for any ideas.

It's a known issue due to all camel Audio plug ins not being updated to current specs. Not much you can do about it I'm afraid.

Thank you. It was bound to happen eventually.

I'm still mad I can't use Alchemy on my iPad, that was one of the best iOS synths ever

Re: Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
Really? Which VST2 version does Live 11 support? Ugh... Alchemy was getting sluggish, but it was still working. I wish there at least were a way of extracting the audio raw material from all the soundbanks I bought for it (other than rendering everything out manually). That acquisition was a really shite move by Apple.
First ClyphX Pro and Arsenal, now this. I can live without Alchemy, but I don’t know when I’ll actually transition over to Live 11, even though I bought and installed it.

<scratches head> Perhaps there is something I don't understand here, but I am running an instance of Camel Audio Alchemy in Live 11 right now. It works as it always has.
Re: Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
I am running the component version of Alchemy, not VST and it is v1.55.0. I don't know if that was the last version. I lost my final download, but was able to move the files around from one computer to another.jimstrider wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 6:31 pm<scratches head> Perhaps there is something I don't understand here, but I am running an instance of Camel Audio Alchemy in Live 11 right now. I tried it again and the plug-in screen is blacked out (same for my other two Camel plug-ins), but it does seem to be functional. I clicked around the black window and was able to blindly select different sounds. And, it still works perfectly in Live 10.

Re: Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
FWIW, I'm successfully running the Alchemy VST in Live 11 on Windows 10.
It might be interesting to know if this is a Windows/Apple difference.

Re: Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
That could be it. I did find my VST, but it was not recognized by Live 11 on my Mac. I use either a 2013 iMac or 2017 MacBook.jimstrider wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 7:28 pmFWIW, I'm successfully running the Alchemy VST in Live 11 on Windows 10.

I do have a Windows laptop no one is using, so maybe I'll switch to Windows for a while.

Re: Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
Ok, had to try it myself, and indeed it works. So this is an AU specific problem? Can't you run VSTs on Mac now, though?
Re: Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
Still working for me on W10. Reinstall could fix it.
Re: Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
Glad to hear Alchemy is still working for many of you in Win10. I'm still bummed I can't use it in IOS too. It was the best mobile synth imo.
For anyone wondering why this is an issue - Apple acquired Camel Audio in January 2015. So Alchemy and Camel Phat and all the other awesome stuff they made, no longer got any updates after the shutdown in 2015 (support ended in June or July 2015).
However, Apple has now taken Alchemy and integrated it into their Mainstage app. They didn't even change the name or user interface. So people looking to use a fully updated and supported Alchemy are in luck. Apple actually added new features and effects so Alchemy looks better than ever.
Take a look for yourselves > https://www.apple.com/mainstage/plugins ... le-alchemy
I'm not sure yet about using Mainstage in conjunction with Ableton Live 11. Hopefully it is possible. I will be testing this out soon as I have just bought an M1 Mac and I have Mainstage as well as Live 11. Fingers crossed

Re: Live 11 and Camel Audio Alchemy
Could you tell me what is the rest of your configuration ? I've been desperate to make alchemy works since I upgraded from win 8 to win 10, using live 9.7 . But since I upgraded to win 10, ableton crashes on startup while scanning alchemy... I have no idea what is causing this, and considering now to upgrade to live 11 only so that I can use alchemyjimstrider wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 7:28 pmFWIW, I'm successfully running the Alchemy VST in Live 11 on Windows 10.
