Recording a live mix

Post by Fondella » Sun Mar 14, 2021 6:57 pm

Hi,

I'm running Ableton 10 on my MacBook Pro. All is working just great.
I would like to record a live session. I don't have any midi instruments/keyboards, just my laptop, with onboard digital instruments.
I would like to record myself moving sliders, effects, fades, over a period of about three to five minutes. Essentially a 'live mix'.

I would then like to export this recording as an .aiff file and upload to Soundcloud.

The Ableton manual, and YouTube, aren't very helpful on this as they
immediately start talking about midi instruments.

Thanks very much in advance for any help regarding this topic.

Turn off monitoring on all the channels if you’ve already recorded the midi or audio for them.

Then just hit the big record button next to play and stop and any action you do while it is playing back and recording will be recorded.

I'm assuming all the music is already recorded:

- Go to Preferences -> Record/Warp/Launch tab -> Record Session automation in [All Tracks].
- Turn on the icon on the top bar next to the + symbol. The one with the two circles joined by a line.
- Make sure there are no record-armed tracks.
- Hit Record (left of the + symbol) and every move you make on any track or plug-in will be recorded as automation on that track.
- Export your song.
