Love my mix but it has red bars in volume levels

Post by gallagherf » Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:52 am

Hey guys,

I genuinely love the mix down of my song and really dont wanna change it. The voice sounds so much more intimate and intense when its in the foreground and high levels.

I think it does sound good.

But Im aware some ppl majorly warn exporting a song with some red level volume levels...

Is it really THAT tremendously dramatic?

Idk... would make my life quite hard when at last im finally kinda content with a mixdown LOL! <3

Thanks a lot for any words on this....

Just make sure the output/master doesn't clip at all.

That's the important part.

The channels are 32bit headroom. They won't clip internally. When the all get summed at the master you get that one last chance to bring it down . Do it there. On that fader.

No matter what people try to tell you about "gain staging" if you are happy with your mix that's all there is. But reduce the master to get that mix to a file

Angstrom is 100% right. as long as you're not clipping on the way in, and on the way out, there's nothing to worry about.

here's a pretty helpful explanation (I'll never pass up an opportunity to share this vid):
