No MIDI Master output with Yamaha DTX-Multi 12

Post by Kia Sidhe » Thu Jul 22, 2021 7:29 pm

Hi!

I´m trying to record my Yamaha DTX-Multi12 on a MIDI track in Ableton Live. It´s connected with USB Cable to PC, audio cable to a Focusrite USB Interface. I get sound through speakers but I´ve no Master output. So nothing gets recorded unfortunately. How do I get Master output?

I can put some pictures up if it helps.

Hi, forgive me if you already know this, the M12 can send onboard WAV samples and/or MIDI notes, but they're separate things. If I understand your problem correctly you're able to get audio from your interface so it sounds like you're using the M12 to trigger onboard samples - is that right? If so you need to set up an audio track in Live and then route the In from whichever channel the M12 is on your interface. But if you just want the M12 to send MIDI notes then you'd need to set up a drumrack on your MIDI track, add the sounds to the drumrack and match the MIDI notes for each pad on the M12 to the pads on the drumrack - then when you hit the pad you trigger the sound in Live. No sound needs to come from the M12.

When sending MIDI notes you can either set up one large drumrack and then use different kits on the M12 to trigger different notes; or you can have one kit on the M12 that just sends the same 12 notes, and then set up multiple drumracks in Live for the different sounds, and use dummy clips to select the right rack for each song.

Does that make sense?

Cheers
D

There is no such thing as recording samples on a midi track....... Either you record midi notes or audio in live.......

Aaaah, I can actually record my DTX 12 on audiotrack. Thanks! It worked, but I´m not sure if it´s recommended? I kind of suck at drums.

You better record drums as midi - you can edit and quantize where needed. Then you can play the midi file to your drum brain and record the sampled sounds. In Live Suite you have the external instrument utility to do this in an easy way......
