launch entire scenes using follow actions in Live 9

Post by kebabman » Sat Jul 31, 2021 1:43 pm

Hi there

I'm using Live 9.

I can't work out how to launch entire scenes one after another in session view? I'm getting an understanding of how to do this with one channel but how do you do it with an entire scene and launch several clips?

I was hoping that I could click on the master channel where scenes are launched but this doesn't seem to be possible?

Many thanks

Scene Follow Actions are a new feature in Live 11.

In Live 9 you do it by triggering Scenes manually (mouse or MIDI controller, don't forget to remove Stop buttons when needed), setting Follow Actions carefully by Track, with M4L and with python remote scripts like Clyphx.

Virtual MIDI cables allow to send MIDI outside then back into Live, it will be treated as external MIDI than can be used for MIDI Assign (maybe even remote scripts? If you sends the same MIDI data as some supported controller? Never tested myself).

Stuff like autokey should allow using Key Assign or even mouse automation.

Thanks for this info.

This is what I was wondering - it can't really be done in Live 9.

Yes at the moment I'm using a Novation launchpad to start scenes. My reason for wanting to try and get it automated is in case I forget to do it manually or get distracted by other stuff.

So in Live 9 I need M4L and am sending MIDI out of Live and back in again? Although I've got M4L, I've never used it as it looks quite scary!

What does removing stop buttons do when playing back scenes?

I've had a go with dummy clips - I added a new channel on the right at the end of my session view. I've managed to get these triggering "next" so it plays down the page in order. The problem is, only a couple of my channels seem to be playing! if I'm doing dummy clips, I'm thinking it's note enough to just have them on one channel....I probably need to insert them in every gap in every scene where there is currently silence (no clips)?

Many thanks

Many ways to do this. One is to use my "Grand Duc" device.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina i7 2.8 GHz OS 10.13, L10.0.1, M4L.

Thank you for this info.

It seems like as a Live 9 user I need to go down the Max for Live route. Does M4L use a lot of cpu power?

Loving your music by the way:)
