Preparing my first mix for a big P.A.

Post by yogude » Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:32 am

Hello there,

A friend of mine wants to use one of my beats to rap over at a science slam at our University.
It's the first time that I have to prepare a mix for a big P.A. system and I'm not sure if everything I did sounds quite right and I should watch for several things. I'm afraid that kick and bass might be too loud in my version.
Can anybody help me out and give some tips?
He wants to rap about it live, so I'm also asking wether i should eq to make room for his voice.

Here's my version so far. https://we.tl/t-vrHKzcG3pI

Thanks for your help.

Hi, will you be playing your mix from your laptop using Ableton? If so you could create separate stems for kick, percussion, bass, keys etc. and then eq/mix each stem when you plug into the PA and hear how they sound. You will only really know how it's going to sound when you use the PA in the room but the engineer should be able to help, just try to get them to soundcheck your track.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Cheers

That really helps if I can make the soundcheck. Then I can fix my group busses according to the rooms acoustics and the sound system.
Thanks.
