I don't see it working until Max has gone native also. As for plugin support; I suspect it will also be limited to native M1 plug-ins (maybe there could be a third party wrapper I don't know)
Is this how it works with other M1 native DAWs like Logic? I’m pretty sure that if done properly, it still translates non-native plugins properly.
Audio Units under Rosetta can work on DAWs on the M1 if the DAW is set up for it. Logic of course works best this way, but it should be possible with Live as well.
The exception to this is Bitwig which is VST only but uses a plug in sandboxing system which lends itself to running both native and Rosetta VSTs without too many issues.

I guess we'll see. probably not a trivial problem to deal with though.

Guess today's a good day for M1. Ableton Live 11.1 public beta is out...

Happily cryptic!
Ableton are super smart for getting this out in this month, since the 14-16" Apple Silicon Macbook Pros are very likely coming in the next couple weeks. Tuesday has been a common day for events. Made me look and see if Apple announced an event!

Just curious how the new Apple Silicon beta is going for people?
lovelight mentioned bugs still (it's a beta, of course), but what kind? Is it worth an odd crash if using at home (i.e. not on-stage/paying customers in a studio)? How beta-y is the beta? Is it more on the alpha-y, or gamma-y end of the beta spectrum?
Does M4L work in it too? Or any other missing features?
Live relevant things: Suite 12, MacBook M1 Max, RME UFX II (kext drivers), Push 1

Alpha are never delivered to public, so yeah that's a beta.
Some M4L devices (the ones that use Max externals that aren't yet compiled for the silicon architecture) and some packs aren't updated yet but it's coming before the release.

Cool, thanks jur. Think I’ll not bother with beta for now then until it gets them in a later beta version (or goes final release).

You're welcome anytime if you want to join in and help in beta testing.

I'd be curious to know how to plugin support works too; does it support only M1 native plugin with the M1 version; or can it somehow also support intel vst/au? can you use/edit m4l patches too? (which mean there's a working max M1 version too)

Worth looking at this for the general idea

got it; so long vst (for now) hello AU. could have been worse.
(that's probably ok since most plug ins have AU and VST available)
no chance of a an "ableton vst translator" ?

A VST translation background app/API for intel VSTs to run much like apple does with AU plugins would be awesome if possible from Ableton side. Would be willing to pay for that as well.
