Ableton bounces master channel incorrectly when audio has splits and bpm has envelope automation

Post by LethalRush » Tue Sep 07, 2021 3:54 am

Ableton bounces master channel incorrectly when you have one long audio track that you've made various splits to, and you have automation on the bpm on the master channel.

To reproduce:
  • load a long audio file into session view (like 2+ minutes long)
  • duplicate track
  • pan each track hard L/R
  • create envelope on master track for bpm and set start of track to 120 and end of track 130
  • perform numerous splits (Ctrl+E) on only one of the copies of the audio track. do not actually move anything, just split
  • playback near the last 20 seconds of the track - sounds perfect.
  • bounce master channel. playback - you should hear significant timing discrepancy between L and R tracks. The track that had the splits will be delayed with respect to the original; the more splits the more delay. You can also load the bounced track into live and observe the timing discrepancy between L and R channels visually.
can anyone tell me if there is a workaround? Or if you experience this issue as well?

8O
There's definitely something happening here. I can reproduce even while playing back in Live, no need to export.
I'm testing with warp off. Was your files warped?

And L9. I won't try going further.

It's actually possible to trigger the issue very easily while Live is playing.
So, once you have a setup described by LethalRush with a tempo automation and 2 identical (somehow long) clips each in its separate track (unwarped):
- launch the transport at the ~3rd of the clip
- click to a random location on the top clip
- and press cmd-E to split it while the audio is playing.
Most of the time, the timing discrepancy will happen right after you've split the track.

Of course automatic fade and warp are disabled, there's simply no reason for this to happen.

FYI, this bug is known and filled.
If you have 5mn to report to support@ableton.com that'd be welcome (the more reports, the higher the priority!)
