New to this - need help with Mic echo

Post by andyjg74 » Fri Oct 22, 2021 6:39 pm

Hi,

I am new to Ableton and am using Lite v11.5.
I have a R0de NT2A condenser mic and a SSteinberg UR44 running on Windows 10,
Whenever I record audio, I can hear an echo and not sure how to remove this.

I have the mic on input 4 and set as an audio on Ableton.
Output 5/6 is to my speakers. I also have a monitoring headset in port 2 on the front but this has to be turned right up to hear the mic.
I'm using Auto for the monitoring in Ableton.

I can record the track and play it back, but it sounds like i'm in a concert hall.

Any ideas welcome please.

Thanks,
Andy

Sounds like you are monitoring from your interface and Live at the same time which will double what you are monitoring and due to your latency setting monitoring in Live is delayed. Turn the track in Live's monitor section to Off. Generally when recording vocals you want to monitor through your interface if it has direct monitoring capabilities and you will want to mix the audio appropriately- increase your mic gain (don't clip!), turn Live's channel in the interface down and crank the headphone output as desired. You *could* turn your latency down and monitor through Live but as projects become more complex or due to the drivers used this isn't always feasible.
