How 'Bit Depth' in Preference Works?

Post by Freddie1973 » Wed Jan 12, 2022 8:06 pm

Hi, thanks for your time.

This question might be elementary one, but what does 'bit depth' of 'Record' section in Preference mean?
Mine seems to have been set as '24' all along the way.
So, for this case, does that mean that all the audio clips I have ever recorded was in 24bit, not in 36bit ?
Or all the audio clip I have imported to Ableton Live Set was converted into 24bit, even the audio files I edited and saved as 32bit-float clip in RX8 ?
If so, how does 32bit-float work? or this hasn't anything to do with 32bit float anyway?
Sorry, I'm a little bit confused.

Only newly recorded audio will be 24bit, any files you drag into Live from the browser will retain they original bit depth.
