Phase Flip to hear hard clipping

Post by junqueira » Wed Jan 19, 2022 1:51 pm

Hey everyone, I would like to phase flip a sound in order to hear the effects of a hard clipper like Kclip. They do this in Bitwig, but I haven't been able to replicate the results in ableton..maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone share how to successfully do this? Here's what they're doing: https://youtu.be/14TQj_OYz8A?t=212

Create an effect rack with 2 chains
put your plugin in one chain
in the other chain put a Utility with both channel phase inverted (if your plugin does add latency, you'd need to insert it before Utility but make sure it's not processing your sound)

So I did do it the right way then, the only problem is that I don't hear anything. But I can clearly see that the clipper is chopping the peaks; do you know why? thanks for your help!

No, you didn't do right.
When I wrote "put the plugin" I meant "put Kclip".

i'm being pedantic, however you are not "phase flipping".

a change in phase is achieved by shifting a signal backwards or forwards in time. what you are doing is flipping the polarity of the signal.

to be fair, this is such a common mistake that it even appears on some pro equipment (mixers, etc.)
