Drum bus transient boosting (with) less distortion

Post by baseinstinct » Tue Jul 05, 2022 1:09 am

I am finding drum bus to deal with mix very effectively, and nearly out of the box. Unfortunately, it adds distortion. Could it be that the waveshaping is playing key role rather than be obsolete?

I wanted to try and did this known trick as follows:
1. set the transient boost with all else set to min/null
2. create a parallel chain with drum bus and all set to min/null and transients set to zero
3. add invert phase utility to make the parallel chains cancel out each other so that only the delta for transient boosts goes through.

The punch is no longer as appealing, so I have added to the chain which ends up with transient the drum bus effect with all set to zero/null expecting that only the waveshaping is applied. The effect is neither appealing nor much similar to a single drum bus.

What am I doing wrong

If it worked, it would be only a matter of adding a waveshaper with wet/dry or even creating one with parallel chains again.

mmm not sure if this help but you tried reducing the trim (input level) ?
No matter what is the trim, it's not clean unfortunately.
