Slice to separate tracks based on similar sounds?

Post by stay_janley » Sat Jul 30, 2022 9:58 pm

I've been doing a lot of work by shuffling breaks around using slice to midi. When you slice more than a bar or two up, you end up with a lot of different samples that correspond to slightly different kicks / snares / rims etc. I'd like to group similar instruments into tracks or at least label them so that I can quickly and easily do things like turn off the hats or fade the kick in. there a plugin or Ableton trick to do this? I know that there is the "convert audio to drums", which is similar but it usually doesn't work well and it just removes your samples. I could also go in and manually label the slices and regroup the slices or do separate slice to midi based on different sets of warp markers... But that sucks too and takes a lot of work for a complex beat.

One way of doing this would be a plugin or trick that takes an audio file and returns out a set of audio files corresponding to the individual instruments, like a kick wav, a snare wav, etc.

Thanks
